AustralianSuper named fund of the Year

AustralianSuper has won Fund of the Year for the third time at the annual Rainmaker SelectingSuper Awards.

The Awards for Best in Show - MySuper product as well as Best in Show - Personal product were also taken out by Australia's largest super fund.

The Rainmaker SelectingSuper Awards recognise the best superannuation and retirement product providers across a range of specialised awards including risk-adjusted, long term performance, insurance as well as super products for young members. The awards also acknowledge the best performers across asset classes inclusive of Australian and international equities, property, ESG, cash and fixed interest.

AustralianSuper tallied the most awards at the breakfast event held in Melbourne with three. AMG Super, Equipsuper, HESTA, Hostplus and Sunsuper all followed suit with two awards each.

"AustralianSuper is one of Australia's most consistent investment performers with their flagship MySuper option ranking in the top 10 in three of the past five years. And when it wasn't top 10 it only just missed out. Their other investments average in the best 10% of all funds," said Rainmaker Information's executive director of research and compliance, Alex Dunnin.

"They were one of the first super funds in Australia to fully disclose everything they invest in and were the first to launch annual general meetings between members and the fund's key decision makers. They were one of the first super funds to make insurance voluntary for young members below the age of 25. AustralianSuper's impact is not because of their size, but because of what they do with it," he added.

The Award winners are chosen based on quantitative research using Rainmaker Information's extensive database of research, long-term profiling of the superannuation industry and an eye toward current trends in super.

TAL Australia was recognised with the inaugural Outstanding Mental Health and Wellbeing Initiative. The concept was driven by SuperFriend, a national mental health organisation driven to influence a positive change in workplace mental health and wellbeing.

AvSuper was awarded the prestigious MemberSelect for the third time, which is awarded to the fund that is best able to engage their members through a voting process. This award signifies their ability to engage a community around superannuation.

Over 80% of the finalists recognised at the Rainmaker SelectingSuper Awards represented the not-for-profit sector.
